Saam Fu celebrates the Year of the Snake on the Big Island of Hawaii
Since 2018 Saam Fu has travelled to Hilo to celebrate Chinese New Year with our neighbor island friends. It’s always a joy to perform for the eager crowds on the Big Island.
Despite weather delays and cancelled flights, our dedicated team made their way to Hilo.
They went straight from the airport to begin a busy weekend of lion dances for the Year of the Snake. Friday began with a visit to Waiakea Elementary School. Then it was off to downtown Hilo. There, the fine folks at Simply Sisters Boutique organized shop blessings along the Hilo Bayfront.
Later that afternoon our team once again blessed the UFC Gym Hilo. During that visit, two of our lions (playfully) mixed it up in the octagon! After that, Friday concluded with a night visit to the Hilo Town Market.
Saturday marked our return to Prince Kuhio Plaza to ring in the Chinese New Year. There, merchants and shoppers alike lined up to greet our lucky lions. Then it was off to Waiakea Center across the way where more crowds awaited our lions.
The Hilo celebrations concluded on Sunday morning at the Hilo Farmer’s Market. Shoppers and visitors were delighted to see our team and feed lucky envelopes to the lions.
Mahalo once again to the great folks in Hilo for allowing to be a part of your Chinese New Year celebrations!
If you’re already looking forward to celebrating the Year of the Horse in 2026, we recommend booking early. Our schedule does fill up quickly approaching the Chinese New Year season.
